Palazzo Aurea: when comfort becomes invisible

Palazzo Aurea, a historic residential building in Piazzale Medaglie d’Oro in Milan, has solved its air-conditioning problem without any work being carried out on the façade.

The technology used in the Parkair MCW 2.0 range, which utilises water-cooled condensation, guarantees complete comfort in every room without any visible outdoor units, fully preserving the building’s architectural value. In line with the same philosophy applied when selecting heat pumps, our VDI-E model ducted ventilation units have been chosen for air distribution within the rooms; these can be installed either horizontally or vertically.

In this historic building in the heart of Milan, climate comfort was non-negotiable. But neither was aesthetics. Palazzo Aurea is a refurbished residential building where every architectural detail has been the subject of careful design, and where the installation of traditional air-conditioning units would have compromised the façades, balconies and communal areas.

Why can’t a historic building use traditional air-conditioning units?

Traditional air-conditioning systems require a visible outdoor unit, often installed on balconies or façades. In a listed or prestigious building, this type of intervention alters the architectural appearance and may be incompatible with the property’s aesthetic preservation requirements.

How does the MCW 2.0 water-cooled air-conditioning system work?

MCW 2.0 technology regulates the temperature of the air discharged by the fan units via a water circuit rather than through direct exchange with the outside air. This means no holes in the façade, no grilles, and no units visible from the outside: the entire system remains inside the building.

What results did the Palazzo Aurea project achieve?

The system made it possible to air-condition every room in the building whilst keeping the historic façade intact, without compromising on either living comfort or aesthetics.

Parkair works with designers, architectural practices and qualified installers to ensure that every installation meets the aesthetic and technical standards required for projects of this calibre.
